AFRICAST TO BECOME YEARLY – NBC DG
The DG of Nigeria’s broadcast regulator NBC, Mr. Modibo Kawu, has disclosed that plans are afoot to make AFRICAST a yearly activity instead of the current biennial event.
Mr. Modibo Kawu, who assumed office earlier on this year, was speaking at a press briefing on AFRICAST, starting next week.
Though AFRICAST 2016 is expected to bring together broadcasting experts and entrepreneurs from across the continent, Mr. Kawu said of this year’s event: “we are thinking about a new future for AFRICAST and plan to make it bigger and better”.
On the financial benefit to Nigeria, DG Kawu said “sometimes when we talk about the benefit that Nigeria is expecting from the event,you don’t quantify everything in terms of Naira and kobo. If you are looking for bottom line every time, you might miss the critical point.”
Meanwhile, the NBC Director-General also disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to return the N10 billion seized from the Commission.

He explained that the President ordered the release of the money to enable the Commission to meet its digitization target in 2017.
The fund was the recovered loot and proceeds from the sale of spectrum made by the past administration said to have been diverted and alleged inflation of collateral funds meant for Digital Set-Top –Boxes.
According to the NBC boss, the commission has already commenced processing the release of the money, which will be part of funds expected to be injected into the country’s digitalization process.
